Rebel forces entered Tripoli on Sunday 21 August, triggering scenes of celebration among their supporters. Heavy fighting took place across the city, culminating in the capture of Colonel Gaddafi's Bab al-Aziziya compound on Tuesday. Rebels now control of much of the city, although pockets of resistance by pro-Gaddafi forces remain.
