Three days after a massive chemical attack is alleged to have killed hundreds of civilians near Damascus, one of President Assad's few remaining allies is urging him to co-operate with the United Nations.

Russia advised the Syrian government that it should allow a team of UN inspectors, which is already in the Damascus, to visit the site of the alleged attack, just a few kilometres outside the capital.
