Can Al Jazeera succeed in the US?

21 August 2013 Last updated at 10:14 BST

Al Jazeera has launched a new TV news channel in the United States, Al Jazeera America (AJAM), aimed at the domestic market.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has already endorsed the channel.

"It is really effective. Viewership of Al Jazeera is going up in the United States because it's real news," she said.

But can it work in a country where many view Al Jazeera suspiciously? Nick Bryant reports from New York for the Today programme.

First broadcast on the Today programme on Wednesday 21 August.
