European Union diplomats are meeting in Brussels to discuss Western aid to Egypt.

Billions of dollars are given to Egypt annually in Western aid.

Former Foreign Secretary, Lord Owen told the BBC: "We in the EU, have a very definite commitment that aid is related to democratic circumstances and acute humanitarian relief and in this situation, we should apply those criteria very toughly to this new government"

EU foreign ministers are set to hold emergency talks on Wednesday.
