Kofi Annan has told the BBC that the conflict in Syria could "inflame the whole region", and said that if the UN security council did not work together, the situation would get much worse.
The former UN secretary general recently resigned his role as the UN and Arab League's special envoy to Syria, in frustration at the lack of progress in finding a solution to the crisis.
