In Benghazi a violent protest against an amateur film portraying the Prophet Mohammed has led to the deaths of four US officials, one of them the US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens.

Libyan officials say he died when the Consulate was set on fire.

President Barack Obama described Mr Stevens as "a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States".
