Defying danger to make a pilgrimage in Karbala, Iraq

Help

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have converged on the city of Karbala in southern Iraq to celebrate one of the most important figures in Shia Islam.

The rituals to mark the birth of Al-Imam Al-Mahdi, known as the 12th Imam, culminate on Friday, just days after dozens were killed and wounded in attacks across Iraq and in Karbala itself.

Rami Ruhayem reports.
