The head of the United Nations observer team for Syria has arrived to take charge of the advance deployment.

Maj Gen Robert Mood of Norway and the 15 unarmed military observers already there have the job of monitoring a poorly-observed ceasefire that's now in its third week.

The UN Security Council has approved the deployment of 300 monitors in total. Speaking in Damascus, Maj Gen Mood said that bringing peace to the country would require a collaborative effort.
