Dalai Lama guarded on immolations
In the last year more than 30 people have set themselves on fire in an attempt to draw attention to China's restrictions on Tibet.
Here, the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama - who has officially retired from political leadership of Tibet's exiles - tells Newsnight's Sue Lloyd-Roberts why he has not spoken out about the self-immolation protests.
Watch Sue Lloyd-Roberts full report on Tibet on Newsnight on Wednesday 18 April 2012 at 10.30pm on BBC Two, then afterwards on the BBC iPlayer and Newsnight website.
