Labour leadership hustings plunged into darkness

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his challenger Owen Smith were plunged into darkness during a hustings event in Gateshead.

The rivals were answering questions about renewing Britain's Trident nuclear weapons system when the lights went out at the event.

Mr Corbyn joked "let there be light" as Mr Smith added: "I blame the Tories".
