Tributes have been paid to a Carmarthenshire man who died while working on an island in Thailand.

Backpacker Jack Davies, 21, who was known as Jay, had been travelling in Thailand for three years when he died at Ko Phi Phi near Phuket.

The cause of his death is still being investigated and government officials are supporting his family.

In a statement, his parents Christine and Jonathan Davies said: "He was a lovely boy and everybody loved him."

The Llanelli Star newspaper said Jack, who studied at Coleg Sir Gar, had been working and travelling in the south east Asia country for the past three years.

A Foreign & Commonwealth Office spokesperson said: "We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
