Yachtsman taken to hospital after Newport Bay incident

A yachtsman has been taken to hospital after getting into difficulty in Newport Bay in Pembrokeshire.

Milford Haven Coastguard said they were alerted to someone in difficulty in the water by a 999 call at 18:35 BST.

A spokesman said lifeboat crewmen treated the yachtsman before paramedics and an RAF Sea king helicopter arrived.

Lifeboats from Fishguard and Cardigan were among the services who attended and police were also called.

The ambulance service said the injured man was taken to hospital in Haverfordwest.

A spokesman said: "We received a call from the coastguard to attend at 1844 and a male casualty was conveyed to Withybush Hospital. A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance attended."
