Lifeguards are patrolling four beaches in two counties over the bank holiday weekend, says the RNLI.

The charity said lifeguards are in place at Whitesands and Newgale beaches in Pembrokeshire and Llangrannog and New Quay in Ceredigion.

West Wales RNLI lifeguard manager Philip Davies said the teams will be at their posts from 10:00 to 18:00 BST.

He said: "Even though it's forecasting sunshine and warm weather remember that the water can still be cold."

The RNLI said its lifeguards will be patrolling 17 beaches along the south Wales coast over the summer.

In 2013, the RNLI responded to 32% more incidents on beaches than the previous year.
