Death of 81-year-old man in Neath house fire investigated

The man's body was found inside the property in Whittington Street

South Wales Police are investigating after an 81-year-old man was found dead after a fire in Neath.

Fire fighters were called to the fire at a terraced house near the town centre at 08:00 GMT on Sunday.

The man's body was found inside the property in Whittington Street.

Police and Mid and West Wales Fire Service are still at the scene and carrying out a joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Our investigation is still at an early stage, but I can confirm that the body of an 81-year-old man was found inside the property."

One neighbour described him as a "nice gentleman, who'd talk about the rugby."
