Susan Jones, a Swansea councillor for the area, said she was in the village shortly before midnight on Friday to attend a function for the twinning society.

She said: "The village was quiet. We're like a hub for number of other villages. People have to come through Gowerton to get to other places."

Mrs Jones added: "My heart goes out the family of the gentlemen who has been murdered."

The ambulance service confirmed that it had been called to a stabbing.
