Llanelli AFC pays tax debt before winding up court case held

A bid to wind up Llanelli football club has been dismissed at London's High Court after officials were told it paid off its tax debts ahead of the hearing.

Lawyers for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) had lodged a petition to wind up Llanelli AFC Ltd in July.

The Welsh Premier league club issued a statement via its website on Friday saying its tax debt had been settled ahead of Monday's scheduled court date.

No details were given at the hearing which lasted only about 10 seconds.

Registrar Sally-Anne Barber dismissed the petition against Llanelli AFC after being invited to do so by HMRC. The club was not represented.

Another Welsh Premiership team, Neath FC, was wound up in May.

In the same month Neath Rugby Club escaped a winding-up order after it was accepted it had paid its debts to HMRC.

Connah's Quay beat Llanelli 3-1 in Saturday's game.
