Swansea Timet factory fire leads to 'stay indoors' plea

About 80 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a Swansea factory which led to local people being urged to stay inside and keep doors and windows closed.

Seventeen appliances from both Mid and West and South Wales Fire Service went to Timet UK in Waunarlwydd after it was reported shortly before 0945 GMT.

The fire was in a part of the plant where chemicals are used in the manufacturing process.

The site was evacuated safely, and the fire was brought under control.

South Wales Police said they urged locals to stay indoors as a precaution.

Timet is described on the company website as "the world's largest supplier of high quality titanium metal products".

Officers from South Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service and Environment Agency Wales were also sent to the scene.

An investigation will be carried out into the cause of the fire.
