Police have issued a photograph captured on CCTV of a group of men officers believe witnessed a serious assault in Swansea's Wind Street.

A 19-year-old man suffered serious head and facial injuries in the attack about 2230 GMT outside the Varsity pub on Wednesday 29 December.

A 19-year-old man arrested shortly after was released on police bail pending further investigation.

Police are appealing for the men pictured to contact them.

Officers said the victim was knocked to the ground during a "large disturbance" outside the pub near the junction of St Mary Street and Wind Street.

'Very nasty assault'

His head was "repeatedly kicked and stamped upon" and he was left unconscious.

He was taken to Morriston Hospital where he underwent treatment for serious head and facial injuries.

Det Con Anna Marie Edwards from Swansea Central CID said: "This was a totally unprovoked attack on young man who had been knocked to the ground, following a disturbance and who was not in a position to defend himself."

She urged the men photographed, or anyone who could identify them, to contact South Wales Police.

"This was a very nasty assault and at the time there would have a large number of people on Wind Street, and in particular in the vicinity of the Varsity pub," she added.

Contact Swansea CID on 01792 450618 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
