A lottery winner from Port Talbot has stepped forward to claim the £5.6m double rollover jackpot they won more than three weeks ago.

Draw organisers were starting to worry that the player was unaware they had won or had lost their ticket.

The identity of the winner will be kept a secret unless they agree to publicity.

They matched all six numbers in the Lotto draw on Wednesday 1 December and have only now claimed their prize.

Last week the National Lottery issued an appeal to all players in the Port Talbot area to check their tickets.

A spokesman said: "We're delighted that the winner of this amazing prize has come forward in time for Christmas and we hope that they will enjoy their win.

"It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money.

"We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play."

The winner will have to go through a series of security checks before taking home the full £5,629,964 jackpot.
