Family of a woman who died after a car crash on the A470 described her as "a very bubbly person".

Joanne Smart, 36, a PA, from Cardiff, was taken to the city's University Hospital of Wales following the crash on the A470 between Nantgarw and Taffs Well at 10:15 BST, but later died.

Miss Smart's mother Barbara Richardson and step-father Glen Richardson said she lived life to the full.

Their statement added: "As a family we are devastated".

At the age of 20, Miss Smart joined the Royal Fleet Auxiliary as a civilian radio operator and was able to use Morse Code, assisting with requests for emergency supplies for the British Forces.

She moved from County Durham to Cardiff just over 10 years ago and worked at Cardiff University, a job her family said she loved.

The family statement said: "Joanne, known as Jo by her friends, will be missed by all who knew her. There's nothing she liked more than to spend time with her family, especially her sisters Amy and Laura and her best friends Emma, Rebecca and Sarah.

"They were inseparable and would meet up as often as they could. Jo had a real zest for life and was always willing and happy to help anyone who needed it."

Miss Smart was driving her red Peugeot 206 on the southbound carriageway when the crash happened.

She was taken to Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales but later died.
