The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife has been sent home for the weekend.

Caroline Parry was shot in the back at close range near her home in Newport last August.

Christopher Parry, 49, from Cwmbran, admits manslaughter but denies her murder.

Newport Crown Court heard he shot her because he could not accept she had left him but he claims he was only meant to shoot himself.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Stephen Hunter said Mr Parry later told him he wanted to make his wife "realise the torment she had put him through".

Jurors were sent out to start considering their verdict on Friday.
