New arrest over police officer assaults at Brynmawr

A fourth person has been arrested on suspicion of assault and violent disorder after three police officers were assaulted in Blaenau Gwent.

The officers needed hospital treatment after an incident in Market Square, Brynmawr, at about 01:00 BST on Monday.

A local woman aged 26 is helping police with inquiries in addition to two men aged 28 and 23, and a woman aged 23.

A man arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery has been released on police bail.

Gwent Police said the officers went to the square following a report of an attempted robbery.

While making an arrest, people unconnected to the alleged robbery became involved and the incident escalated to one of disorder, the police force said.

The officers were released after receiving treatment at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
