Two in hospital after car left road on A4048, Blackwood

Two people were seriously injured after a car crashed off a road and hit a tree near Blackwood, Caerphilly.

A grey Rover MG hit a tree off the A4048, Ysysddu, at 23:55 BST on Monday.

A man, 21, and a woman, 20 - both from the local area - are in a stable condition at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

One of the casualties was cut free by firefighters from Aberbargoed and Risca. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 594 05/05/1.

The road was closed temporarily but later re-opened.
