Fire crews free man impaled on ground spike in Barry

An elderly man who was impaled on a ground spike in the Vale of Glamorgan has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Barry and Ely were called to the incident in the Colcot area of Barry at 11:33 BST.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the man who is in his 70s.

He was taken to the University of Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment.
