Newport arrest after suspected explosive device found

Poilce at Ridgeway Drive A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm

A man has been arrested after police discovered an object which they say "looked like an explosive device".

Officers from the Gwent force attended an address in Ridgeway Drive, Newport, at about 11:45 BST on Tuesday.

A cordon was put in place and the Explosion Ordinance Division was contacted.

A 34-year-old Newport man has since been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and cultivation of cannabis.
