Three Gwent Police constables arrested

Three police officers from the Gwent force have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The constables were suspended from duty following an investigation by the force's professional standards unit.

The men, who were held on 6 February, have been released on police bail. Two are from Caerphilly county and the third is from the Newport area.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will supervise the investigation.

In a statement, the force said: "As a result of a Gwent Police professional standards-led investigation, three male police constables, two of whom live in the Caerphilly borough area and one from the Newport area, have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"The arrests took place on Thursday February 6th. All three officers have been suspended from duty.

"The investigation was referred to the IPCC who will supervise the investigation."
