Kings Monkton School in Cardiff evacuated after fire

A school in Cardiff has been evacuated following an electrical fire.

The blaze was confined to the basement of Kings Monkton School in Roath.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire crews, from Roath, Cardiff Central and Whitchurch, at about 10:20 GMT.

All students and staff were evacuated safely from the independent school for children aged two to 18. Western Power attended and isolated the electrical supply.

School principal Paul Norton said the fire had caused very little damage.

"Although the school is closed today, it will be open as usual tomorrow," he added.

The school has about 230 pupils and 60 staff.
