Body recovered from River Taff in Cardiff

Police searching for a missing Cardiff man have recovered a body from the River Taff.

Officers were called to an area in Hailey Park, in Llandaff North, just after 14:00 GMT. Formal identification has not taken place.

South Wales Police say the family of Ashley Wells, 26, from Gabalfa, are being kept updated by family liaison officers.

Mr Wells was last seen leaving his home at 20:45 GMT on 5 January.

He went out of the house without his wallet and mobile phone.

Specialist teams and the police helicopter have since searched the River Taff, the Taff Trail and several wooded areas.

Officers have also been trawling through CCTV footage from cameras near Mr Wells' home but it is not known which direction he went after he disappeared.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm a body has this afternoon been found in the River Taff, near Hailey Park, Cardiff.

"Officers were called to the area just after 2pm. Formal identification has not taken place.

"The family of missing man Ashley Wells, aged 26, from Gabalfa, Cardiff, are being kept updated by family liaison officers."
