Bedwas crash: Motorbike passenger dead at the scene

A 40-year-old woman has died after the motorbike on which she was a passenger collided with a car near Caerphilly.

Claire Victoria Franklin from Caerphilly was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Pandy Road, Bedwas, at about 17:15 GMT on Monday.

The 31-year-old male motorcyclist from Caerphilly is critically ill at the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff.

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

Gwent Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the red Peugeot 306 estate car or the motorbike before the collision to call them on 101.
