Manhole fall in Penarth leaves two people injured

Two people are understood to have been hurt after falling 15 feet through a manhole shaft into sewer pipes in the Vale of Glamorgan.

South Wales Fire Service sent twelve appliances to Northcliffe in Penarth at around 17:00 BST on Saturday.

The fire crews used portable lighting and thermal imaging equipment to locate the two male casualties. They also used gas detection equipment.

No explanation has been given for how the pair ended up in the manhole.
