Police name victim, 77, of M4 collision near Newport

Police say a woman who died in an M4 crash between a lorry and a car near Newport was from Devon.

Officers said they believed the woman who died in the collision at junction 25 (Caerleon) on Wednesday was Jill Fluckiger, 77, from Barnstaple.

A man, 32, from Bargoed, Caerphilly county, has been bailed after his arrest on suspicion of manslaughter.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed because the lorry was being used to work on the road.

The woman was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport after the incident at at 23:10 BST on Wednesday.

Formal identification has still to take place, said Gwent Police. Mrs Fluckiger's family is being supported by family liaison officers at this difficult time, the force added.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to call 101 and use reference 543 2/10/13.
