Police search for 'very distressed' woman in Cwmbran

Gwent Police are trying to find a "very distressed" woman of Chinese origin who flagged down a car in Cwmbran on Friday lunchtime.

The woman, in her 20s and appearing to have a bruised neck, was spotted on Ton Road near new houses being built close to Hollybush junior school at 12:30 BST.

She wore a white blouse over a yellow vest. Her English was very limited.

Police said they have real concerns for her welfare and safety.

She had black hair which was worn in a ponytail.

The motorist contacted police but the woman left almost immediately and could not be found by officers when they arrived at the scene.

Ch Insp Rod Grindley said: "We have real concerns for the welfare and safety of this woman, and since receiving this report officers have exhausted a number of lines of enquiry to establish her identify."

He appealed for anyone who may have seen the woman or knows who she is to contact Gwent Police on 101, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 and quoting reference 297 02/08/13.
