A470 crash near Merthyr Tydfil: Three taken to hospital

Three people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash which has closed the A470 in both directions north of Merthyr Tydfil.

The road is shut from the Cefn Coed y Cymmer roundabout and its junction with the A465 Heads of the Valleys to the A4059 near Storey Arms.

One of the vehicles involved was left on an embankment, trapping a person in the car.

The road is expected to reopen later.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, have been attending the scene, and a traffic investigation is also expected to take place.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it had been called at 11:03 BST to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A470 near Merthyr Tydfil.

"A male with chest injuries and a female with abdominal injuries were taken by ambulance to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, and a second female was taken by Helimed (air ambulance) to the University Hospital of Wales," said a spokesperson.

The incident has led to serious delays and queuing traffic in the area.
