The body has been found of a biochemist four days after he went missing after going out to a shop.

Dr David Hampton, 64, from Pill, Newport, disappeared at about 23:00 BST on Thursday.

His family had appealed for help and believed he had been suffering from a virus in the days before going missing, which left him "confused" and "dazed".

His body was found in the Queens Way Meadow area of Newport on Monday afternoon.

Gwent Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

In a statement, the force said: "Gwent Police and David's family would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for David.

"Our thoughts remain with David's family and friends at this time."
