Serco: 450 call centre jobs announced for Cardiff

About 450 call centre jobs are to be created in Cardiff as a company which manages sales for retailers aims to double its workforce.
Serco says the move follows securing a major contract and expansion of its other work for many well-known firms.
Two years ago, the company announced 600 jobs in the city but only 400 were taken on with the recession being blamed.
But by the end of September it aims to have 850 employees.
Jan Lewis, site director for Serco, said: 'I am delighted to confirm these roles are new permanent roles, and we have already started recruiting.
"Staff training is vitally important and takes just over five weeks so we are phasing in new starters over the next few months but are looking to have recruited the full 450 by the end of September."
Serco moved to a new office in Cardiff in 2011 to provide services for organisations including online and home shopping retailer Shop Direct Group.
The contact centre is operated by The Listening Company, which was acquired by Serco in the same year.
In the next few weeks, Serco is looking to recruit the first 100 sales advisors with the remaining 350 jobs, which also includes management roles, coming later on.
The announcement comes two months after Virgin Media said it is creating 230 call centre jobs in Swansea.
There are an estimated 30,000 people in Wales who work in the call centre industry.
