Cross Keys: Stay in, residents near Newtown estate told

Residents living near a factory fire have been urged to stay indoors and keep all doors and windows shut.

Gwent Police said the warning was a precaution for anyone living within about 250m (about 800ft) of GLJ Recycling on the Newtown Industrial Estate, Cross Keys.

Police say a fire involving 400 tonnes of recycling material has been contained.

But roads within some 50m (about 160ft) were shut and diversions put in place.

A force spokesman said he wanted to reassure members of the public everything possible was being done to ensure their safety.

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze just before 13:00 BST on Saturday, and five pumps and a water bowser were used to tackle it
