Police have called off the search for a man who fell from a bridge on the River Wye in Chepstow, saying they now believe he must be dead.

A major search continued on Wednesday after the man was reported to have fallen from the Wye Bridge on the A48 on Tuesday afternoon.

But officers say because of the weather conditions and the time passed, it is believed that the man has not survived.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Gwent Police said they believe the man's identity has been established and family liaison officers are supporting his family.
