Pant, Merthyr car crash kills woman, 28, injures man

A 28-year-old woman has died and a man has been seriously injured after a car hit a tree early on Saturday in a south Wales village.

The woman was a passenger in the Honda Civic which struck the tree in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, alongside the village cemetery at about 01:30 GMT.

The driver, 36, remains in hospital, said South Wales Police.

Officers asked for any witnesses who may have seen the car or a man on the road at that time.

Witnesses are asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The woman's family is being supported by a police family liaison officer.
