Gwent Police investigating injured man in Caerphilly road

A man has been taken to hospital after being found injured in a road in Newbridge, near Caerphilly.

The 25-year-old was found on Central Avenue at 22:00 GMT and was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where he is being assessed.

Gwent Police said it was keeping an "open mind" about how the man was injured and is appealing for witnesses.

Pantside Primary School is closed as a result of the incident and parents have been informed by text message.

A police spokeswoman said: "We're investigating the theory that it could be a hit and run. But we're not sure yet how he came by his injuries."

Witnesses should call 101.
