Gwent Police are hunting a 22-year-old prisoner who has absconded from jail.

Leighton Mark Williams, who has links in the Caerphilly area, left Prescoed prison on Sunday.

He was serving an indeterminate sentence for grievous bodily harm after being convicted in June 2008.

Williams is white, around 5ft 8in (1.72m) tall, slim build, with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and grey/blue Adidas trainers.

He is not a registered sex offender, but police believed there may be a potential risk.

Members of the public are advised not to approach Williams but to call police if they have any information on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
