A car parts firm is planning to close its south Wales factory which employs about 200 workers.

The Unite union says Sogefi Filtration in Llantrisant has started a 90-day consultation period among staff. The company has been asked to comment.

Unite regional officer Andrea Jones said the announcement comes after staff recently returned to full time working.

Pontypridd AM Mick Antoniw said he had met the firm's managing director who confirmed the closure plan.

The factory is known by many locally by its former name Fram Filters.

The company also has a factory in Tredegar but that is understood to be unaffected.

Ms Jones said the announcement was a shock to workers.

"They have recently gone back on to full time hours following a troubled period last year that saw half the workforce at Llantrisant being made redundant and the remainder being put on short time working," she said.
