A465 closed between Gilwern and Brynmawr after fatal crash

A motorcyclist has died in a three-vehicle crash which closed the A465 Heads of the Valleys road in Monmouthshire.

Gwent Police said the incident, at 12:35 BST near Clydach, between Gilwern and Brynmawr, involved a Peugeot 106 car and two motorcycles.

One of the motorcyclists died at the scene. The other, and the car driver, suffered critical injuries. A passenger in the car suffered minor injuries.

Diversions were put in place.

Police said the Peugeot car was travelling towards Brynmawr while a Yamaha motorcycle and a Brutale motorcycle were travelling towards Abergavenny.

The car driver was flown by air ambulance to the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff.

The surviving motorcyclist and the car passenger were taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.

A South Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews from Ebbw Vale, Brynmawr and Abergavenny attended.

Gwent Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 101.
