Elderly sailor suffers serious head injuries off Barry

A pensioner has been seriously injured onboard a yacht in the Bristol Channel at Barry.

The 74-year-old was hit on the head by the yacht's boom and knocked unconscious.

Barry Lifeboat attended the scene at around 11:40 BST on Friday and the man regained consciousness.

He was flown by helicopter to Barry coastguard station where a waiting ambulance took him to the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff.
