A body found on the banks of the River Taff at Pontypridd is believed to be that of a missing man last seen six days earlier, say South Wales Police.

Joseph Lacey, 28, was seen outside the town's train station early on Monday, 20 August and was reported missing the following day.

He had earlier been seen in a club and pub in the town during a night out.

The body was found on Sunday. Officers said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"South Wales Police can confirm the body of a male was discovered by a member of the public on the banking of the River Taff at 9pm on Sunday evening," said a spokesperson for the force.

"A formal identification has not yet taken place, but the body is believed to be that of Joseph Lacey, who was reported missing on 21 August."

Police had previously released CCTV images of Mr Lacey, who was from Pontypridd, in an attempt to find him.
