Pentyrch murder: Police question teenager after fire at bungalow

The victim, who has not been named by officers, is believed to have lived on his own

Police are continuing to question a teenager on suspicion of murder after the death of a man in an early morning fire in a village near Cardiff.

The 18-year-old was arrested after the blaze, which happened at a bungalow at Cefn Bychan, in Pentyrch, shortly after 02:30 GMT on Friday.

An incident room has been set up at Cardiff Central Police Station.

The victim, who has not been named by officers, is believed to have lived on his own.

It is thought he only moved into the area just over a year ago.

Neighbour Anne Morgan said: "He was a very quiet man - he just kept himself to himself.

"We used to have a chat when we bumped into each other.

"It's a small community, it's a friendly community. It's just a shock."

Car revving

A spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the blaze was still under investigation.

Neighbours said they heard a car revving its engine in the early hours of Friday morning.

There was the sound of a crash shortly afterwards, which is thought to have been a car hitting a wall.

Fire crews from Whitchurch and Pontypridd were sent to tackle the incident at 02:37 GMT.

Police confirmed on Saturday that an 18-year-old man is still being questioned on suspicion of murder.
