Trapped dog rescued 20ft underground at Mountain Ash

Firefighters have rescued a dog trapped 20ft (6m) underground on a hillside in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The terrier cross fell into a crevice at Cefnpennar, near Mountain Ash, an area firefighters say is dotted with old mine workings, on Friday afternoon.

Specialist rescuers from Malpas Fire Station in Newport and Ebbw Vale joined a crew from Aberdare, using line rescue techniques to reach the trapped animal.

It was three hours before the pet was reunited with its owner at 19:00 GMT.
