Newport murder: Jerzy Dubiniec accused is remanded
A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody, charged with the murder of 60-year-old Jerzy Dubiniec, who was visiting south Wales from Poland.
Gavin Mills, of Newport, appeared at Caerphilly magistrates court on Wednesday.
Mr Dubiniec, a master baker, was found on Broad Street, Pill, in the early hours of Saturday.
Mr Mills is due to appear at Newport Crown Court on Thursday.
Another nine people from the Newport area have been arrested in connection with the death. Three have been questioned on suspicion of murder.
A 19-year-old man and a 23-year old woman were bailed pending further inquiries, while a 23-year-old woman has been released with no further action.
Six people have been questioned on suspected driving offences.
A 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old were bailed after questioning on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
Two men, aged 22 and 44, and two women aged 18 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless and inconsiderate driving and failure to report a road traffic collision.
They have also bee released on police bail.
A tribute to Mr Dubiniec, a master baker in Poland for 30 years, by his son, said he was "a loving, patient and caring man who was adored by his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
"It was his passion and he came to Newport to pass on his knowledge and skills to the local bakery where he was working."
Meanwhile, police are appealing for information to trace the drivers of two cars who they say could be vital witnesses in the inquiry.
Officers say that between 03:30 BST and 04:00 BST on 20 August it is believed four cars passed the scene where Mr Dubiniec's body was found.
Officers have spoken to two of the drivers but need to trace the other two, who are urged to come forward to help police with the investigation.
