Severn barrage 'would take too long to build'

A scheme for a 10-mile barrage across the Severn estuary to generate renewable electricity has been scrapped.

Secretary of State for Energy Chris Huhne made the announcement on Monday.

Mr Huhne deemed the Severn barrage scheme as not "financially viable".

Gordon James, director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said the barrage would have been too expensive and taken too long to build.
