40mph gusts disrupts sailors and kayakers across Gwynedd

Strong winds gusting up to 40mph have disrupted water sports events in north west Wales.

Dinghy sailors in Pwllheli had to cancel racing and 140 kayakers were forced to shorten their course in an expedition race at Bangor on Monday.

Organisers of the Topper World Championships 2014 hope to resume sailing on Tuesday.

The kayakers from Caernarfon finished the first of their three stage event at Bangor Pier, rather than paddle beyond.

One kayaker, not connected with the group, reportedly capsized but two RNLI lifeboats called out were stood down and not needed.
