Primary school children in Gwynedd have joined forces with artist Pete Fowler via the internet to create a mural commemorating World War One.

Fowler, best known for illustrating rock albums for the Super Furry Animals, created designs based on ideas from pupils at Ysgol Glancegin, Bangor.

They used the internet to collaborate with the London-based artist before painting the final mural themselves.

It will be unveiled on the side of an old shipping container at the school.

The Arts Council of Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre have backed the project as a way of seeing how digital technology can help people work together over long distances.

Fowler said he enjoyed working with the eight and nine year old pupils at the Maesgeirchen school via their blog and other new media channels in a "thoroughly modern way".

Head teacher Bethan Morris-Jones added: "We've developed so many new skills and taken the use of digital technology to new levels at the school."
